Web traffic numbers despite fewer iPhones sold than Android
According to an updated report by online ad purveyor and analyst firm Chitika, Apple's iPhone accounts for 46 percent of the smartphone internet traffic. Apple's performance beats out Samsung-built phones by 29 percent of the total share. The previous report cited data saying that web impressions from the iPhone 5 had overtaken the Galaxy S III 56 percent to 44 percent of the cumulative total of the two phones' traffic.
Additional data from the report includes the iPhone 5 accounting for three percent of all smartphone Internet traffic, with two percent coming from Samsung's Galaxy S III. Apple's 46 percent eclipses all other smartphones from vendors (other than Apple or Samsung) combined by six percent of the total share.
All iOS mobile traffic, including 3G-equipped iPads, account for 48.67 percent of all mobile traffic in North America, with all combined Android devices holding 48.27 percent of the total traffic. Android devices claim 52.2 percent of the total mobile market in units sold.
