32GB Nexus 7 to be priced where 16GB model is now
British retailer Argos has published its 2012 Gift Guide, revealing that Google will indeed be releasing a 32GB version of its Nexus 7 tablet. The higher-capacity model of the 7-inch tablet has been rumored for some time, but the Argos listing seems to confirm those rumors. The pricing Argos reveals would also seem to lend credence to another rumor: that Google will be releasing an impulse buy-priced version of the Nexus 7 this holiday season.
The Gift Guide listing was spotted by TeckComesFirst. Argos prices the 32GB Nexus 7 at £199, a price point currently occupied by the 16GB unit. Observers have noted that the 32GB unit's price point may push the 16GB to the £159 point where Google currently has the 8GB Nexus 7 slotted, potentially pushing the a £99 price point.
That price level for the 8GB model would bring it into competition with Amazon's low-end Kindle Fire and significantly undercut price predictions for Apple's forthcoming iPad mini. Other observers have noted that Google may retool the 8GB model, perhaps powering down its internals in order to meet a lower price point.
