Spectrum deal covers 45 markets, 150M population
Dish Network has settled its lawsuit with Voom HD, allowing AMC back on Dish as of last night. The channels were initially dropped due to claimed high costs for AMC channels despite a relatively low viewership, though it appears more connected to a separate wireless spectrum-related lawsuit that has now ceased.
According to the deal, found by Engadget, Dish will pay $700 million in cash and its 20-percent stake in Voom, in exchange for 500MHz of “wireless multichannel video and data service spectrum licenses,” covering 150 million people in 45 markets.
A separate deal sees AMC Networks channels reappear on Dish, as part of a multi-year agreement. While AMC reappeared as of October 21, other channels including Fuse, Sundance, WE tv, and IFC will return from the start of November.
