Galaxy Tab 2, LG Optimus L9 first to be protected by new app

T-Mobile USA, Inc. and security vendor Lookout Inc, have announced a partnership between the companies to provide T-Mobile customers instant protection against mobile threats with Automatic App Security. Exclusively for T-Mobile customers, Lookout's Automatic App Security will come preloaded on select devices this year and is expected on most shipping Android devices in 2013, securing the carrier's smartphones and tablets for free.

The LG Optimus L9 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will be the first devices preloaded with Automatic App Security when it becomes available. Existing T-Mobile customers can enjoy the same benefits by either registering the preloaded version of Lookout or by downloading the app from the T-Mobile Picks section of Google Play.

Lookout will scan all applications upon download, in addition to providing weekly scans for potential threats, using the Lookout's Mobile Threat Network. If an application is identified as potentially harmful, Lookout will provide information and instructions on how to protect against the threat or uninstall the application.

Lookout Premium offers additional protection, including the ability to back up photos, remotely lock devices and wipe content, and find out which apps or services are accessing personal information, is available on compatible devices for $2.99 per month.
