Cyanogenmod-packing microSD cards bring Android 4.1.2 to Nook Tablets

A new product called N2Acards is now available for the Nook Tablet that will let owners of the Barnes & Noble tablet choose to boot into the original Android-based OS or the full-blown Android 4.1.2. The microSD card contains Cyanogenmod-based software on them that allows the dual-boot feature, though more tech-savvy buyers can opt to just download the OS image and install it on their own.

The cards are available in 8-, 16-, 32-, and 64GB capacities, with prices ranging from between $30 and $90. While they ship on November 1, the $20 OS image on its own can be downloaded presently. These buyers will need to supply their own microSD card, however.

With the N2Acards, Nook Tablet owners can look forward to expanding the apps available to them from over 10,000 to more than 700,000. It also adds Google, Kindle, and the Indiebound eBook readers to the standard Nook and Overdrive programs. It also brings themes, widgets, and launchers, while reportedly turning the device into a full-fledged Android tablet. Finally, it allows the use of microSD memory cards up 64GB in capacity.
