Xperia S will go back on sale gradually after addressing a production flaw
Sony's Xperia S tablet will go back on sale starting mid-November, Sony Japan revealed recently. The updated tablets stopped being sold in early October due to some quality control issues during its manufacture. The defect exposed some tablets to water, as a gap was present between the screen and case.
The tablets were said to be waterproof, and the defect made them decidedly less so. Sony stopped production in order to have the issue fixed, though the re-release will be gradual to ensure the problem is indeed licked. Affected tablets can be sent to Sony for a repair or replacement, as needed. The inspection and repair will be free of charge.
Before the stoppage, Sony shipped 100,000 units, though how many suffered from the flaw isn't known. The Tablet S is powered by a 1.4GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor paired with 1GB of RAM. It sports a 9.4-inch touchscreen and an eight-megapixel camera. [via XperiaBlog]
