Lens sales up by 720,000 compared to last year
Nikon's recent financial results show an improvement in net sales compared to last year. Sales of 381 billion yen ($4 billion) are up by 56.5 billion yen ($700 million), though operating income has dropped 5.6 billion yen ($70 million) to 41.8 billion yen ($520 million) compared to the same period last year.
Camera sales have raised across the board, with a 400 thousand unit increase on the number of compact cameras sold for the first half of 2012, totaling over 8 million. Interchangeable cameras such as DSLRs hit 3.45 million sales, up 720 thousand compared to a year ago, while interchangeable lens sales rose 840 thousand to 4.77 million.
Based on current figures, Nikon estimates that its imaging business will continue to grow, while other sections will remain fairly static. Profit for the entire year is expected to be around $750 million.
