CloudBox generates cloud storage, streaming with home internet connection

Today drive maker LaCie announced an all-new network storage solution that connects an entire family group to music, movie and photo files. The LaCie CloudBox stores files in a single location, so family members can easily share them with friends and access them from anywhere on the Internet on any device.

The LaCie CloudBox implements zero configuration UPnP to make the shared files available both on the LAN it is installed, as well as controlling access to Internet users. The LaCie CloudBox will appear on the user's Mac or PC just like a connected device. Both iTunes and Windows Media Server services are present on the box, allowing the user to stream to iTunes clients and consoles such as the Xbox 360.

The included backup software for PC and Mac helps users ensure all video, music collections and family photos are backed up should a laptop, phone or tablet crash or be lost. The CloudBox ensures users can access files from any network-connected smart phone, tablet or laptop. Beyond just backup, the device can also serve as a Bittorrent, FTP, or basic web server.

The Neil Poulton-designed LaCie CloudBox is available in 1TB, 2TB and 3TB capacities through the LaCie Online Store and LaCie Resellers starting at $120.
