Mac mini with external SSD?

Yesterday in the MacNN forums, Mac Elite "WizOSX" had some questions about running a Mac mini with an external SSD and has turned to the forums for some advice. "If I plug in a USB2 thumb-drive do I bring all the 3's down to 2?" asks Forum Regular "imdipped" yesterday.

Forum regular "Dakkon" is trying to determine which system would be better, a 13-inch MBP with an i7 processor, or a 15-inch MBP with a Core 2 Duo processor, join in here. One Fresh-Faced Recruit is looking for advice on how to swap out a hard disk drive for a solid state drive in their MacBook Pro in the thread titled "newbie needs advice on switching to SSD." A Professional Poster is wondering if it is worth it to upgrade to a SSD in a late 2008 MacBook Pro.
