Motorola Atrix HD to get unlockable bootloader on Developer Edition
Motorola has revealed that its Atrix HD will be its latest handset to get the Developer Edition treatment. While it sports alternative wallpaper, the hardware will remain unchanged. As with the Developer Editions of the RAZR HD and the RAZR M, the Atrix HD Developer Edition comes with an unlockable bootloader, allowing for custom installations of Android ROMs.
Although Motorola has posted a page for the handset, it is not yet available for purchase. Instead, anyone interested can sign up for alerts. In the meantime, Motorola also directs users to its 'Unlock My Device' page that includes a lengthy list of warnings and disclaimers for those who choose to unlock their device. Accepting the unlock code from Motorola will also immediately void the warranty on the device. Motorola also warns that apps and movies that have previously been downloaded for the device may not work after it has been unlocked.
The Motorola Atrix HD Developer Edition continues with the current Motorola Kevlar and plastic construction and centers on a 4.5-inch 720x1280 resolution ColorBoost display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. Helping to keep it rugged, it is also coated inside and out with a nano-coating to make it resistant to getting splashed. It is powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor matched with 1GB of RAM. It also supports microSD cards up to 32GB and includes a 1780mAh battery with a standby time of up to 8.5 days. An eight-megapixel camera on the rear rounds out the package.
