Belizean police searching for McAfee after shooting

Police in Belize are searching for John McAfee, founder of the popular antivirus software company, in connection with a recent murder. Reportedly, McAfee is a prime suspect following the shooting death of American expatriate Gregory Faull, whose body was found Sunday morning. Faull is said to have been a well-liked builder originally from California who had been at odds with McAfee for some time.

A police statement today said that Faull was found lying face up in a pool of blood with an apparent gunshot wound on the upper rear part of his head. The weapon used in the shooting appears to have been a luger brand 9mm, as a single casing matching that type of firearm was found at the scene. There were no signs of forced entry, and Faull's laptop and iPhone were discovered to be missing.

Reportedly, Faull and McAfee have had run-ins in the past. Faull filed a formal complaint against McAfee last week, alleging that McAfee had fired off guns and exhibited "roguish behavior."

Gizmodo broke the story earlier today, following up on a piece the site ran last week discussing McAfee's "increasingly erratic" behavior. McAfee had reportedly been associating with Belizean gangsters. In years previous, McAfee is said to have posted more than 200 times to online message boards, detailing his efforts to purify the psychoactive compounds commonly known as "bath salts."

Gizmodo reports that McAfee had in recent months grown estranged from the expatriate community around him. Former friends of McAfee describe him as an enthusiastic amateur pharmacologist "with a longstanding interest in drugs that induce sexual behavior in women." Message board handles associated with McAfee repeatedly detail first-hand experiences from experimentation with an assortment of drugs.

McAfee's whereabouts are unknown, and the San Pedro police department in Belize has told the media that they are actively searching for McAfee in connection with the murder. No one has been charged yet in connection with the case, and the police say they already have one suspect in custody. [Photo via Fox News]
