updated 11:39 am EST, Wed November 14, 2012

Xiaomi Box will bring online content at up to 1080p to HDTVs

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has now introduced a set-top box that connects to HDTVs and user's mobile devices. The Xiaomi Box runs on MIUI version of Android and is said to support AirPlay, DLNA, and Miracast wireless streaming standards. Like similar devices, there is also access to paid content in the form of digital movie rentals and purchases, albeit from various Chinese content stores.

Android apps can also run on the box, and the multimedia file support is extensive. Videos in up to 1080p resolution can be played back thanks to the 800MHz Cortex A9 processor and 1GB of RAM. Wi-Fi is onboard, while physical connections include an HDMI connection, an Ethernet port, a composite video output, a microUSB port, a digital audio out, and the power connection.

Xiaomi promises weekly software updates for the device, which ships in December in China, priced at 399 yuan, or about $64.

Why should I care about a product shipping in China, only has chinese content, and has menus and buttons only in chinese? Was there a missing paragraph about the English version shipping to the U.S.?

Or maybe the NINETY PERCENT of internet users who DON'T live in the United States, and of whom a quarter live in China?

We put up with news on US-only releases.

    Welcome to the World-Wide Web.

I suggest it's time you looked around.
