Adaptive streaming format supports 1080p

Rovi has introduced an update to its video software, DivX Plus. The latest version is claimed to reduce video conversion times, while adding an MP4 output option geared for iPhones and iPads. Users can also stream content to DLNA-compatible devices, such as televisions and set-top boxes.

The software package is said to be the first release to include support for the company's DivX Plus adaptive streaming technology. The adaptive format is capable of handling 1080p video, along with subtitles, multiple language tracks, and smooth fast forward and rewind.

DivX Plus includes a native player, web player, converter and codec pack, with separate editions available as free downloads for Windows or Mac machines.
