Exede service boasts 12Mbps connection speed, capless periods
DirecTV has announced the packages for its satellite broadband service it has created with ViaSat. Dubbed Exede, the 12Mbps satellite connection is being aimed towards rural customers that lack cable or fiber broadband access, and is offering a $10 monthly discount and a refunded installation fee to initial sign-ups.
There are three different packages with varying caps available to subscribers. The 10GB bundle will cost $50 per month excluding the discount, while the 15GB will cost $70. The highest data tier provides an allowance of 25GB for $130, $120 for the first year during the launch promotional period. Though the caps are low compared to other broadband providers, the service is relatively in line with other satellite offerings, with the added bonus of any usage between midnight and 5AM not being counted towards the cap.
The initial sign-up period with a reduced pricing and the $50 installation fee refund will run until January 31st.
