Apple reissues 10.8.2 update for late 2012 Macs

updated 09:00 pm EST, Thu November 29, 2012

No new fixes listed, no reason given for original withdrawal

Following Apple's re-release of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0, Apple has also reissued the OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion Update to 10.8.2 for the late-2012 versions of the 21.5-inch new iMac and Mac mini, as well 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro. There are no changes in the list of fixes and improvements on the new revision over the retracted first revision of the custom update for the late 2012 line of computers.

The late-2012 Mac mini shipped from the manufacturer with 10.8.1, and requires a custom update if the 10.8.2 upgrade is desired. Attempts to use the previous manual 10.8.2 updater were greeted with: "Error: OS X Update can't be installed on this disk. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."

No official Apple announcement was made about the retraction and subsequent reissue. Some recent software releases, such as the update to iPhoto, require 10.8.2 to function.
