Google launches Maps beta app for Mexico

The Google Maps team has been hard at work, earlier this week announcing the release of a beta app that will allow navigation in Mexico. The app is available to download on Google Play (free) and supports devices running on Android 2.2 and newer. Like for other regions, the app will provide directions, maps, local information, and traffic updates in real time.

It requires a GPS link and data connection to operate fully, however, but won't need map updates like most portable navigation devices.

The beta app offers Spanish-language voice search, switching to Street View when nearing destinations, a satellite view, traffic view, and the best route based on traffic. Businesses can also be found. Layers can be turned on for finding gas stations, restaurants, parking structures, and more.
