Best Buy promo slashes $50 from iPhone 5, older models

updated 05:13 pm EST, Mon December 10, 2012

Discount available for largest carriers

Best Buy has rolled out its latest holiday promotion, slashing $50 off iPhone 5, iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 pricing. New or upgrade-eligible subscribers can now pick up a 16GB iPhone 5 for $150 with a two-year contract, while the iPhone 4S currently starts at $50. The discounts include both white and black variants connected to Verizon, Sprint and AT&T.

Customers opting for additional storage have not been left out, as the 32GB iPhone 5 commands $250 and the 64GB edition carries a $350 price tag. The 32GB iPhone 4S is priced at $150, without any additional savings for the refurbished models offered through AT&T.

Best Buy just days ago offered a $25 gift card for iPhone 5 purchases, following on the heels of $20 discounts from competing retailers RadioShack and Target.

The "big-box" retailer has struggled to maintain profits amid declining revenues, despite an increase in purchases through its website. The company has shifted its strategy to embrace mobile phones, and the latest promotion undercuts competitors and Apple's own pricing.

Best Buy is offering free shipping alongside the $50 promotion, which runs until January 5 for in-store pickup or January 2 for online orders.
