Google Zeitgeist reveals 2012 search trends
Google today released its yearly breakdown of the most popular search terms, Zeitgeist 2012. The late Whitney Houston topped searches for the year, while boy band One Direction topped image searches. Breakout NBA sensation Jeremy Lin was the top searched athlete, and The Hunger Games took the top spot among feature films. Apple and Samsung took the top three consumer tech spots, with the iPad 3 at the top, followed by Galaxy S III and the iPad mini. Google's own Nexus 7 took the fourth spot.
Facebook adds Privacy Shortcuts, streamlined Activity Log
Facebook announced a number of changes to its privacy settings today, adding Privacy Shortcuts and an "easier-to-use Activity Log," in an effort to make it easier for users to understand the things they share and how to control that. The social network announced these and other changes, including doing away with the ability to limit who can look up users by name, today in a Newsroom post. The new policy marks the largest change in Facebook's privacy policies since an earlier overhaul in August.
