Apple deploys more detailed status page for online services

updated 04:16 pm EST, Thu December 13, 2012

Allows more precise notifications

Apple has introduced a new version of its system status page for online services. Whereas the old one often lumped multiple problems together into a single update, the new page has individual lights for each aspect of Apple's services, ranging from Maps, Siri, and FaceTime through to the App Stores and various iCloud functions like Mail, Calendar, Back to My Mac, and iTunes Match.

When a service goes down, a yellow "issue" triangle replaces the normal green light. Below the light grid is a timeline view, which illustrates the scope of any recent trouble. Earlier today, for instance, some iCloud users may have encountered problems with Mail, documents, Photo Stream, and backup/restore functions.
