Microsoft steers users toward SkyDrive
Microsoft has announced that it will be discontinuing service for Windows Live Mesh, a file and desktop sharing service the software giant operates for reportedly under 25,000 people. Live Mesh users will have access to the service until February 13, 2013, and Microsoft is encouraging users to sync their files over to SkyDrive and Remote Desktop Connection in order to replace Live Mesh's functionalities.
Microsoft notes in a blog post announcing the change that it has been working to pull Live Mesh's functions and core into alignment with the capabilities of SkyDrive. The company calls SkyDrive "the world's most available and versatile cloud storage service," noting that it works across Windows, Windows Phone, Android, iPhone, iPad, and Microsoft's Xbox 360 game console. The post details how users can go about switching from Live Mesh to SkyDrive, as well as the features that can be matched across other Microsoft services.
