Rumor: Samsung Galaxy Note III to have 6.3-inch OLED screen

Mobile OLED panels reason for push away from LCD technology

Samsung is to ship its next version of the Galaxy Note with a 6.3-inch OLED-based display, according to a rumor sourced from component suppliers to the company. The Galaxy Note III will apparently dwarf the Note II's 5.5-inch screen, itself being larger than the original 5.3-inch Note, and is suggested to come out in the next year.

The rumor comes through the Korea Times, as part of a report on Samsung's move to reduce its investment in LCD technology, and increasing spending in OLED. "With money saved from LCD restructuring, the firm plans to spend more on OLED and flexible displays," said an executive of one of Samsung's suppliers. The push of Galaxy devices by the company will cause OLED to receive more scrutiny from management, and so necessitating the shift in funding.

The paper also claims that Samsung will reveal the Galaxy S IV at Mobile World Congress in February, and not at CES as the rumors generated by a teaser video suggest.
