Statistic could prove embarrassing for Apple
Google Maps for iOS -- released last week -- managed to exceed over 10 million downloads in less than 48 hours, says Google Jeff Huber. The app is known to have become popular extremely quickly, reaching the top free spot on the App Store in just seven hours. Until now, though, Google had not provided any detailed data.
For Apple the statistic could prove embarrassing. In the move to iOS 6, Apple stripped its own Maps app of any Google content. People have complained, though, that the app's mapping data can be inaccurate, and that it's missing features like public transportation directions or an equivalent to Street View. The debacle is believed to have caused the firing of Apple two executives, including iOS head Scott Forstall.

"could prove embarrassing.."? I'd say Apple has already received a good dose of embarrassment on this matter to the point of ad nauseam. But I have nothing but "thumbs up" for the new Google Maps so far.
