Free Android version of Quickoffice on the way

Google today announced that it would be making the Quickoffice iPad app available for free for all of its Apps for Business customers. The app allows users to open and edit Microsoft Office files stored on their Google Drive cloud accounts. The search company acquired Quickoffice in June of this year, and the free iPad version looks to be a step to strengthening the app ecosystem surrounding its Google Docs platform.

Quickoffice for iPad allows users to easily convert Office files to Google documents, or to make edits without converting. In announcing the new app today, Google said that it was also preparing versions of the app for the iPhone and for Android devices.

The app is currently available as a free download in Apple's iTunes Store. It requires an iPad running iOS version 5.0 or later.
