Video processor eyeIO releases 4K-capable StudioRes encoder

Existing eyeIO user Netflix likely to offer 4K media in future
Video processing company eyeIO has unveilled its second generation of video encoding technology. The new version includes a new option called StudioRes, which is capable of encoding 10-bit 4:2:2 H.264 video at a 4K resolution, as well as claims that it will encode video 45-percent faster than its previous incarnation.
The update is also said to reduce bitrates, eventual file sizes and the bandwidth required for streaming said files with minimal buffering by up to 26-percent, something which will help media in lower, more normal resolutions than 4K. Software has also been created to use the H.265 HEVC ITU standard, which seeks to lower bandwidth by up to 50-percent on its own.
The new eyeIO software could be an attractive proposition to streaming services looking towards offering 4K content to their customers, with existing eyeIO users Netflix being likely candidates to provide eyeIO-encoded streaming 4K media first. Offering 4K media to users is an issue for television manufacturers wanting to sell UHDTVs, due to the lack of not only content but also hardware capable of playing the content in the first place, though this is slowly being solved. Sony has opted to provide a media server preloaded with 4K content to buyers of its 4K UHDTVs, while camera manufacturer Red has opened up preorders for its Redray 4K Cinema Player.
