This January, Polaroid will be at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas showing off a new interchangeable lens camera that will run Google's Android operating system. The company's president and CEO recently confirmed the existence of the device, said to be called the IM1836, though Polaroid has not given too many details on its capabilities. According to rumors, Sakar will manufacture the device for Polarioid.
The confirmation comes from Imaging Resource, which cites an emailed statement from Polaroid CEO Scott Hardy. The forthcoming interchangeable lens camera is rumored to feature an 18.1MP sensor, a 3.5-inch touchscreen, and Android 4.0 as its operating system.
The last CES saw Polaroid introducing an Android-powered point-and-shoot, the SC1630. That model featured Android 2.3.4, 3G connectivity, a 3.2-inch touchscreen, and a 16MP sensor.
The IM1836 will be going up against a few other Android-powered cameras, including Samsung's Galaxy Camera. Those devices, though, are largely point-and-shoot cameras, and the interchangeable lens system on Polaroid's new model could give it an edge among semi-professional photography lovers.
