AT&T rolls out 4G LTE network to 15 markets, four expanded

Upgrade to AT&T network follows similar by Verizon, T-Mobile

AT&T has rolled out its 4G LTE network in 15 new markets in the United States, and expanded network coverage in a number of already-live locations. Ten have gone live today, while five others were launched earlier this week -- pushing the total overall number of markets AT&T's 4G LTE network is operational in to 124.

The high-speed network went live in Boise, ID; Boulder, CO; Bowling Green and Lexington, KY; Harrisburg and Lancaster, PA; Hartford and New Haven, CT; Ogden, UT; Providence, RI; Green Bay, WI; Melbourne, FL; Oxford, MS; and Springfield, MA. Tuscon, AZ gained access on Tuesday, while the coverage has been expanded in Middlesex County, NJ; Phoenix, AZ; Salt Lake City, UT; and Los Angeles, CA.

The expansion by AT&T comes a month after the company pledged $14 billion to build out its cell and wireline networks over the next three years. The wireless expansion, earmarked to receive $8 billion, will see 250 million US residents being able to access the 4G LTE network by the end of 2013, with that number growing to 300 million by the end of 2014.

Earlier this week, both T-Mobile and Verizon expanded their 4G networks, by 14 and 29 US markets respectively.

Los Angeles? Just TODAY? I'm in San Francisco and we got AT&T's 4GLTE first? How 'bout that! I have a graphics design firm and my smartphone is becoming like a third arm since the data speeds are so good.

It says coverage expanded in Los Angeles, which means they had it already but now expended as LA covers a very large area.
