updated 04:08 pm EST, Fri December 28, 2012

Razr M HD would pack Snapdragon S4 Plus chip

Motorola is rumored to be working on an HD variant of its Droid Razr M handset for release next year. The company has made no announcements regarding a Razr M HD, but rumors suggest that the device would pack significantly updated internals, as well as an improved battery. The updated Razr M would still serve as a mid-level handset, with a 720p display even as other manufacturers are moving toward 1080p displays.

The rumor comes from phoneArena, who cite unnamed sources that say the device will see an upgrade from the 4.3-inch display on the current model to a 4.5-inch display on the Razr M HD. That display would output at 720x1280 with a pixel density of 326ppi. Reportedly, it would ship with Android 4.1, but it would be upgraded some time thereafter to Android 4.2.

Inside, the Razr M HD is said to pack a Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 chipset from Qualcomm, with a dual-core 1.5GHz Krait processor and an Adreno 225 graphics processor. It would also have 1GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage, expandable by microSD or microSDHC to 32GB. Powering it all would be a 3300mAh Li-Ion battery, allowing up to 21 hours of talk time or 15 days of standby time.
