NFC, WiDi, Miracast accompanies content recommendations

LG has revealed more details about its range of televisions for 2013, ahead of CES. Adding to the announcement of Google TV-enabled screens the company has already shown, it has also opted to give more information on features the HDTVs will have, including NFC, Miracast, WiDi, and a new recommendation function.

Called On Now, the service suggests trending video on demand and broadcast content for viewers to watch. Suggestions will pop-up with thumbnail images of what is being recommended, though how a trending program is designated as such was not made clear in LG's announcement.

SmartShare will allow content from other smart devices to transfer over to the TV, including through WiDi and Miracast. A feature called Tag On can let users trigger a transfer of content by waving an NFC-enabled source device, such as a smartphone, over an NFC sticker on the back of the TV, which in theory would allow for inter-device communications to be created quicker.

The Smart Home onscreen interface has also been revamped, using both My Interest Cards for quick content categorization and sorting, and taking advantage of the Magic Remote's voice recognition and gesture controls. A demonstration at CES will show off Voice Mate, an enhanced version of the voice recognition already used by the Magic Remote, which simultaneously filters search across multiple platforms.

LG also confirmed it will be demonstrating a 55-inch OLED TV, as well as its 84-inch 4K-resolution UHDTV and 'Hecto' Laser TV projector
