Asus intros Vivo Smart Tablet with TranSleeve

Asus has launched its Atom-powered Vivo Smart Tablet. Unlike the Asus Vivo Tab RT, the Vivo Smart Tablet runs Windows 8 on x86 and is backwards compatible with Windows desktop software. The device can be paired with an optional TranSleeve Keyboard that does triple duty as a cover, keyboard and stand, adopting a similar approach to the Microsoft Surface.

The Vivo Smart Tablet centers on a 10.1-inch IPS LED backlit display with a standard 1366x768. However, unlike many Windows 8 tablets, it supports only 5-point multi-touch rather than the more common 10-point multi-touch first featured on the original iPad. On a more positive note, Asus claims the Z2760 Intel Atom processor will help to deliver a competitive 9.5 hours of battery life.

On the rear, the Vivo Smart Tablet incorporates a high-quality 8-megapixel camera that features a five-element lens, while it also includes a 2-megapixel camera on the front. Sound is provided courtesy of SonicMaster through stereo speakers. Asus is yet to detail US pricing and availability. [via Far East Gizmos]
