Able to send scanned document to mobile phone, cloud storage

Fujitsu has announced a new addition to its ScanSnap range, offering the ability scan documents directly to mobile devices. The ScanSnap iX500 will scan a document and send it over Wi-Fi to an Android or iOS device running the ScanSnap Connect app, without needing to use a computer as an intermediary device.

The same app will also allow for the ScanSnap iX500 to scan directly to cloud-based services, such as Evernote, Google Docs, and Dropbox, in both PDF and JPEG formats. The built-in "GI" image processor can also create PDF files at a speed of up to 25 double-sided color pages per minute at 300dpi, 25-percent faster than its predecessor. The Quick Menu is fully customizable and appears after a scan is completed, providing options on where the scanned documents can be sent to, in terms of applications. The advanced document feeding system inherits the enhanced "Separation Roller" technology used in higher-end scanners in Fujitsu's range to increase feeding reliability, while the USB 3.0 connection improves inter-device file transfer speeds.

A software package is also offered with the iX500 for both PC and Mac formats. ScanSnap Manager provides one-button searchable PDF creation and custom scan profile configuration, as well as a way to manage Scan-to functions for cloud-based repositories, while other included software items cover such tasks as document management and OCR functionality.

The ScanSnap iX500 is on sale now for $495 through Fujitsu resellers, while an optional deluxe bundle is available for $595.
