Gaming tablet set for first-quarter release, controller separately

Gaming peripheral manufacturer Razer has finalized the crowd-sourced design and specifications list of the Project Fiona gaming tablet. Rebranded the Razer Edge, the Windows 8 tablet PC has been put up for pre-order for a first-quarter release, though the optional extra side controller mount will be made available later in the year, as opposed to being included from the start.

The Edge has a 10.1-inch IPS display capable of a 1366x768 resolution, and its base configuration will consist of an Intel Core i5 1.7GHz processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of SSD storage, and Intel HD4000 and Nvidia GT 640M LE graphics. A Pro version with a 1.9GHz Core i7 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of SSD storage will also be available to purchase. Both versions will have Wi-Fi access, Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, a 2-megapixel front-facing webcam, stereo speakers, array microphones, a single USB 3.0 port, and HDMI.

The Gamepad Controller will be made available seperately, along with a keyboard dock and a docking station, and will be a pricey proposition to those wanting to have the Razer Edge as originally designed, costing $250 for the Gamepad alone. An extended battery is also sold as an optional extra, and extends the tablet's power to a claimed 8 hours of normal usage and up to 4 hours of PC gaming.

The base Razer Edge will cost $1000, while the Pro version will sell for between $1,300 and $1,500, depending on the chosen specification.
