Hands on with HTC's One SV for Cricket Wireless

One SV is the ideal size, offers 4G speeds on Cricket

We got a chance to check out one of HTC's latest handsets at an event in Las Vegas just before the CES kicked off. It was the One SV and announced for the UK earlier in 2012. It sports a dual-core, Qualcomm S4 1.2GHz CPU and has a 4.3-inch super LCD-2 touchscreen at 800x480 resolution and covered with Gorilla Glass 2.

The size makes it ideal unlike some other much larger and more ungainly devices. Its case is soft-touch plastic, but unlike the Windows Phone-powered 8X it's not milled from one solid piece but rather snaps together. There was a panel gap on the demo unit that we got rid of by simply snapping it shut. Android 4.0 is preloaded, with HTC's Sense 4 interface skinned over it. There is just 8GB of storage space, though it can be expanded thanks to a microSD memory card slot. The rear camera is a 5-megapixel unit, though the lens is an f/2.0. It can capture 1080p video and gets backside illumination. The front-facing shooter is rated at 1.6 megapixels and f/2.2. It runs on Cricket's 4G LTE network, so download speeds should be faster in areas that support it. As with other HTC handsets, Beats Audio is integrated, though the amp feature only works when listening through headphones.

The handset is a Cricket exclusive in the US, with stores getting it on January 16. Cricket doesn't do contracts, so the price is set at $350. The sole confirmed color is Flame Red.
