WebDAV, Bonjour, SMB support standard on device
Kanex launched today a storage solution for iOS device users -- the new meDrive. The new network attached storage device turns USB storage into a network drive and can be accessed from an iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, OS X, or Windows. Users can create local cloud storage, or extend iOS storage for faster access to files and secure sharing. The documents created by Apple iWork iOS apps Keynote, Pages, and Numbers can be shared and accessed directly from the network with with the meDrive's built-in WebDAV support.
Key features of the device include secure file management across multiple operating systems, built-in Bonjour support for easy setup and discovery, storage expansion through the USB port, and support for WebDAV and SMB network protocols. Connectivity is provided by a fast Ethernet port and a USB 2.0 port. When the device is used as an external drive, power is provided by the USB bus.
The corresponding meDrive app acts as a file manager tool so users can manage folders, files and media as well expand the storage of iOS devices across a network. Available free at the Apple App Store, the meDrive app has features that also allows photo and video import from an iOS device directly to a local storage drive for safekeeping, backing up or sharing.
The meDrive retails for $99. The peripheral is available now.
