HP modernizes monitor aesthetics

HP brought its latest hardware to Las Vegas this week for CES, where Electronista checked out the company's new xi-series displays. The offerings range from the 20-inch 20xi to the 27-inch 27xi, bringing a modernized appearance and LED-backlit IPS panels.

The redesigned aesthetics are a welcome change, much more attractive than some of HP's other budget and midrange displays. The glossy black plastic has been replaced by edge-to-edge glass and a brushed metal bar along the bottom edge, while the aluminum foot takes cues from Apple's iMacs.

The IPS panels provide wide viewing angles and seemingly accurate colors. All of the models in the lineup provide 1920x1080 resolution, perfect for watching movies and suitable for most other applications.

The xi-series monitors will range in price for $129 to $339, with availability expected later this month.
