Nokia Q4 mobile phone sales 'exceeded expectations'

Lumia sales reach 4.4 million, up from 2.9 million in Q3
Nokia has revealed that it's Devices & Services division has "exceeded expectations," in its preliminary fourth-quarter results report. The section "achieved underlying profitability" in the quarter, with both its Mobile Phones business unit and Lumia portfolio gave better than expected results, while operating expenses turned out lower than initially estimated.
Net sales of the Devices & Services section reached 3.9 billion euros ($5.1 billion) for the quarter, Smart Devices making up approximately 1.2 billion euros ($1.57 billion) of the total. Out of the 86.3 million units being sold, 9.3 million were Asha devices, Lumia smartphones sold 4.4 million units, while Symbian smartphones reached 2.2 million phones shipped. The sales numbers are better than the Q3 results, where only 77 million units were sold, 2.9 million being Lumias.
While Nokia issued some details on its results, the complete fourth-quarter and full year 2012 results will not be revealed until January 24th. Third-quarter results showed the company making a total operating loss of $755 million, preceded by a $1 billion loss the quarter before, and a $755 million loss in the first quarter of 2012.
