Chip performance estimated less than current iPad processor

Rumors suggest that Samsung's new mobile processor will have decidedly current-gen graphical capabilities. The Exynos 5 Octa was claimed at CES to have twice the 3D gaming performance of any other mobile processor, but did not reveal its GPU configuration, leading to speculation it will have performance between that of Apple's A5X and A6X.

Multiple sources of AnandTech led the publication to suggest that graphics will be supplied by a PowerVR SGX 544MP3 GPU running at 533MHz. While still an upgrade from the ARM Mali-T604 GPU used in the Exynos 5 Dual, it will still have a computing performance of 51.1GFLOPS, less than the A6X's 71.6GFLOPS found in Apple's latest iPad incarnation.

Samsung did not reveal which devices will receive the eight-core, 28nm Exynos 5 Octa in the future at CES, but the company may provide more details behind the chip and potential smartphones it will launch on at Mobile World Congress next month.
