Android apps usable on single screen or spanning both
An Android smartphone with hinged dual screens has been revealed as part of NTT DoCoMo's new range of mobile phones. Originally shown at Mobile World Congress last year, the NEC Medias W has a pair of 540x960 TFT LCD displays measuring 4.3 inches, which when unfolded, gives the user a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1080x960.
Running on Android 4.1, the two displays can run applications on each screen independently, or by using both together to offer more space to work with. The Medias W is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor supported by 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera with back-illuminated CMOS, 16GB of memory expandable by microSDHC, LTE connectivity, and a 2,100mAh battery.
The Medias W will be on sale in Japan in mid-April, though a price has not been revealed. A global release for the smartphone has yet to be announced by NEC.
