European Mac Pro sales to halt in March, report claims

May hint at timing of long-awaited Mac Pro update

Apple will stop selling the current-generation Mac Pro in Europe on March 1st, according to 9to5Mac sources. A leaked memo indicates that the computer is "not compliant with Amendment 1 of regulation IEC 60950-1, Second Edition which becomes effective on this date [the 1st]." Resellers will be able to sell any remaining stock after that deadline, but Apple will no longer take vendor orders after February 18th, and must be able to deliver systems before March.

The law in question covers internal components such as wiring and power supplies, but it's not certain what parts in the Pro might be violating standards. The timing of the law could signal an imminent update to the computer, since a redesign would presumably solve any legal issues. The Pro hasn't received any major updates since August 2010; an upgrade was released in June 2012, but was considered so minor that the "new" tag was actually removed from it at the online Apple store. CEO Tim Cook has promised a new Pro sometime in 2013.

    European requirements, yikes!

The new requirement is that all computers sold in the Eurozone must be "completely" edible. The new model will have a gingerbread case.

Also a new warning sticker is required advising the consumer to unplug from power before eating.

A1:2010 (and to a lesser extent, A12:2011) is killing us in the industry. Such a pain and expense!
