Can connect with other Sonos units for better sound

Sonos has announced the Playbar, a new soundbar speaker for TVs. The unit is designed to sit over or underneath a TV, and contains six mid-range and woofer modules, plus three tweeters. Sensors built into the bar automatically adjust the orientation and EQ of the modules for optimal performance.

The Playbar connects to a TV through an optical cable, and can be controlled via a TV remote or else Sonos' iOS, Windows, and Mac apps. Notably the speaker can also be linked to a Sub and two Play:3 speakers to create a wireless 5.1-channel surround system.

The Playbar is slated to ship in the first week of March, and should be available from retailers for $699. Today Sonos has also updated its Controller app for the iPhone, adding a Favorites section and resolution support for the iPhone 5.
