Samsung set to join the smartwatch trend
Screenshots purported to be from a forthcoming smartwatch from Samsung have emerged on a Korean messageboard. Spotted by Slashgear, the Samsung Galaxy Altius looks as though it will give users quick access to date and time, music playback controls, and email notifications. If accurate, the leak suggests that Samsung, like Apple, could well into the development of the next generation of wearable smart devices.
Also notable in the screenshots are references to Korean telco SKTelecom, suggesting that the device might be tied in with carriers. It also seems as though the device will support a cellular chipset, with a Wi-Fi symbol also present; whether this is indicative of on-board call capabilities, or merely present to provide a data connection can only be speculated. Each of the screenshots is also 500x500, which may also be indicative of the native resolution of its LCD display.
The screenshots also reveal the Galaxy Altius carries the “Samsung-GA7” codename, while the device is running an operating system labeled AltiusOS beta2. Although there are a handful of smartphones on the market, some have chosen to run a version of Android. In this case, it appears that Samsung may have developed an OS specific to the device itself, perhaps looking to maximize performance. Internal storage is 235MB, with 1.5 percent occupied by the OS.
With Samsung expected to reveal the Galaxy S IV at Mobile World Congress it is possible that it could be prepping the smartwatch as a companion to its flagship smartphone. With Mobile World Congress only a week away, it may not be long before we find out either way.

Looks like the red headed step-child of WP8 and Android.
