Streaming video company likely to not see any benefit from port

Sources familiar with the matter are reporting that not only in Netflix not developing a native BlackBerry 10 app for video streaming, but it also has no plans for an Android-based port. When questioned by AllThingsD, Netflix confirmed the reports, saying "we have no current plans for a BlackBerry app."

Netflix did not amplify its remarks, but sources internal to the company say that there is no need to develop for the nascent BlackBerry 10 OS at this time. The likeliest reason for the lack of app is a very small expected growth in the company's business, offering little benefit to the streaming company to outlay the cost to develop the app.

BlackBerry spokesman Alex Kinsella said regarding the lack of Netflix that "at this time, it’s in Netflix’s court to join the excitement around BlackBerry 10 -- we hope they choose to bring a BlackBerry 10 experience to their customers. We’d love to have them."

The Canadian cellphone manufacturer had previously said that it was in talks with Netflix for an app for the new hardware and OS even after a cryptic tweet from Netflix denied any app was in progress. Instagram has recently denied that there would be a native BlackBerry 10 version of its service in the near future.
