$30K Monster Diamond Tears Sally Sohn Ed. reaches Harrods

One-off $30K Monster Diamond Tears headphones go on sale at Harrods

Monster has teamed with Korean artist and designer Sally Sohn for a pair of one-off Diamond Tears headphones. Hand-made, and taking more than 100-hours to craft, the ultra-exclusive pair of headphones is headed to Harrods where it will sell for the equivalent of an astonishing $30,000. However, with components made from 18K gold and 5.56 carats of black diamonds, the pricing rationale becomes clearer.

However, beyond the choice of cosmetic materials, there is no word that the Diamond Tears Sally Sohn Edition features any improvement sonically over the well-received standard model. Monster says that it collaborated with songwriter/producer/actor JYP on the new headphones, following the failure of its financial partnership with Dr Dre on the Beats range of headphones.

However, the company does not go into the details about the “proprietary driver technology and the cut-no-corners materials required for high-performance audio,” that it uses in the making of the Diamond Tears. However, it does add that it does not use any amplification or noise cancellation technology that might leave the music compromised sonically.

A standard set of Diamond Tears headphones by Monster retails for $300. [via Pocket-lint]

    No, it really doesn't.

The pricing rationale does become a bit clearer, but certainly not the owning rationale.

That's like wearing a sandwich-board sign with the words, "KNOCK ME UNCONSCIOUS AND STEAL THESE HEADPHONES!" spelled out in flashing LEDs on front and back. Or, "I have more money than sense!!!"
