BlackBerry Z10 headed set to make US debut with AT&T on March 22

BlackBerry is set to debut its all touchscreen Z10 smartphone in the US on March 22 with AT&T, reports Bloomberg. The device is finally set to reach US customers around 6 weeks after its launch because US carriers go through an extended testing regime before putting products up for sale. The device will arrive in the US on the back of what CEO Thorsten Heins claims are 'encouraging' early sales of the device, which will have reached 21 markets by the end of this week.

While one Canadian retailer claimed to have been selling more BlackBerry Z10 handsets than the Apple iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S III, at least one analyst has slashed sales predictions from 1.75 million units for the quarter to just 300,000. "Our global surveys post the recent BlackBerry Z10 launch indicated mixed initial sales with limited initial supply cited as the reason for early post-launch stock-outs at some carrier stores rather than overwhelming demand," wrote Canaccord Genuity analyst Michael Walkley in a note to investors.

In our hands-on with the Z10 at the BlackBerry launch event, we found that the device has a genuinely innovative and effective on-screen keyboard and that its OS was both smooth and responsive. While we found some aspects of the OS to take a fresh approach to the mobile operating space, it was not always intuitive to use and required some manual reading to take full advantage of its functionality. It is BlackBerry's first genuinely competitive all-touchscreen smartphone offering, but may have arrived too late to make a dent in the Apple and Samsung juggernauts.
