updated 03:32 am EDT, Mon March 18, 2013

Wired, wireless, CD-R and SD card options plus smartphone remote app

Audio accessory manufacturer Scosche is now shipping its latest addition to the ControlFreq line, a multi-input car audio receiver also known as the SCDBTA60. The receiver works with a wide array of input types for music and audio, can handle calls with a built-in mic, reads a variety of standard audio formats and features a remote control app for iOS or Android that lets users switch inputs, control sound quality, send and receive phone calls via Bluetooth or switch to 30 pre-set favorite FM or AM stations with RDS to display song information.

The aftermarket audio unit also features three external outputs for amplifiers, but its main selling feature is the combination of possible audio inputs as well as its smartphone control. For those who want to use the device wirelessly, it supports A2DP streaming via Bluetooth for both audio and phone calls, iPod direct control, and features a built-in microphone for responding to calls. Built-in options include a CD player with CD-R/RW and MP3 disc support and SD card slot that supports MP3 files. Wired options include a front-mounted Aux port and a USB port, allowing nearly any modern device with or without Bluetooth the ability to play music through the receiver.

The frontplate of the device includes integrated EQ presets, bass/treble control and balance/fader options. The smartphone app gives users full remote control, and can be used up to 33 feet away from the unit thanks to its Bluetooth compatibility. For phones or other devices that don't have Bluetooth, the USB port allows the full functionality of the app as well through adapters, or users can simply plug their devices in using the Aux port for direct audio input.

The ControlFreq car stereo is now available at Scosche's website and car audio retailers, and sells for $140. The ControlFreq app is a free download from either the Apple App Store or Google's Play store.
