Company blog trumpets accomplishment, notes equivalencies
According to a report on the official YouTube blog, in eight years the video streaming service has built up to more than a billion unique users per month. As a result of the success, the company notes that all of the Ad Age Top 100 brands have campaigns on the Google-owned service.
The blog notes that a billion unique users represents one in two people on the Internet visiting YouTube, the monthly viewership being equivalent to ten Super Bowl television audiences, and projects that Psy and Madonna would have to perform Madison Square Garden-level performances 200,000 times to equal the viewership. The blog gives credit to the hundreds of thousands of uses that have created content for the service, offering both professional media and rank amateurs an outlet to "broadcast" themselves and their original contributions to a worldwide audience.
