Ninth consecutive victory by Apple claimed by latest poll

Apple continues to crush the opposition in the JD Power smartphone customer satisfaction survey. Apple's rating in the latest edition of the semi-annual poll was so dominant that the score boosted the average overall score to a point above that of all Apple's competitors. Today's result is the ninth consecutive victory for the Cupertino manufacturer, which it has led since the original iPhone's release.

Apple won a score of 855 out of 1,000 in the Smartphone Index Rankings generated by the firm. The average score amongst all rated companies was 796, one point higher than second-place Nokia. The grouping is fairly tight over second through fifth place, with Nokia at 795, Samsung coming in at 793, Motorola with 792, and HTC holding fifth place at 790. LG holds a distant sixth at 744, with BlackBerry trailing among smartphone makers at 732, though the poll period did not include the Canadian company's latest model.

"As the capabilities of wireless phones and their applications continue to expand, and as customers grow more reliant on their device, handset manufacturers have an opportunity to further shape the customer experience and impact satisfaction with better integration of services and more communication options, such as video chat," said JD Power senior director of telecommunications Kirk Parsons.

He continued by noting that "it is important, however, that manufacturers meet the expectations of those customers who take advantage of such offers by ensuring the features are intuitive and, ultimately, rewarding to them. Providing an easy-to-use, yet powerful operating system with the ability to customize applications to suit individual needs is essential to providing a high-quality and rewarding wireless experience."
