Qnap serves up pair of 'budget' rack mount NAS devices

Up to a 2Ghz Marvell chip at core of new devices

QNAP has revealed its new budget-friendly Turbo NAS lineup with the TS-421U and TS-420U rackmount models for workgroups with fast-growing data storage needs. Both new models support cross-platform file sharing for Windows, Mac, and Linux/UNIX users, and provide a centralized storage solution, along with robust backup options, including Time Machine for OS X.

The TS-421U features a Marvell CPU 2.0 GHz, and the TS-420U features a Marvell CPU 1.6 GHz. Both models operate with 1GB DDR3 RAM, and support iSCSI target service with thin provisioning, as well as dual Gigabit Ethernet ports with failover and load balancing. A pair of USB 3.0 ports and two eSATA ports are used to expand NAS device, or can be used for backup.

Both models feature a FTP server, a RADIUS server for user authentication, a VPN server for accessing other network servers, a proxy server for web filtering and monitoring, and a web server. The TS-420U and TS-421U are available now. Pricing is available upon request.
