Cisco slashes 500 positions from its workforce

updated 07:48 pm EDT, Thu March 28, 2013

Move part of regular program to keep workforce aligned with needs

Earlier this week, network equipment manufacturer Cisco announced a cut of 500 jobs. The move was made as part of the company's periodic reassessment of needs and manpower. Most of the positions lost relate to the company's alliance with EMC and other superfluous data center positions. Cisco's worldwide workforce totals nearly 73,000 people.

"We routinely review our business to determine where we need to align investments based on growth opportunities," Cisco spokeswoman Karen Tillman said. "This week, Cisco performed a limited restructuring that will impact approximately 500 employees, less than one percent of our population globally."

    Cisco is a mess

If Cisco would get back to just network hardware, it could make a lot of money and with a lot less than 73,000 employees.
