Move part of regular program to keep workforce aligned with needs
Earlier this week, network equipment manufacturer Cisco announced a cut of 500 jobs. The move was made as part of the company's periodic reassessment of needs and manpower. Most of the positions lost relate to the company's alliance with EMC and other superfluous data center positions. Cisco's worldwide workforce totals nearly 73,000 people.
"We routinely review our business to determine where we need to align investments based on growth opportunities," Cisco spokeswoman Karen Tillman said. "This week, Cisco performed a limited restructuring that will impact approximately 500 employees, less than one percent of our population globally."
