Samsung prepping Galaxy S 4 Mini for quick launch, May launch likely
Samsung is expected to launch a Galaxy S 4 Mini soon after the 5-inch Galaxy S 4 goes on sale next month, reports Bloomberg, lending weight to an earlier rumor pegging its launch for May. Samsung took a similar approach with the 4.8-inch Galaxy S III, following it up with the 4-inch Galaxy S III Mini. Although carrying the same branding as the Galaxy S 4, the Galaxy S 4 Mini will follow in the footsteps of the Galaxy S III Mini in utilizing much lower specifications than its flagship stable mate.
While the Galaxy S 4 is a high-end and powerful device, some consider that its 5-inch display makes the device too large to be practical for everyday use. Until recently, 5-inch devices were considered to fall into the 'phablet' category and targeted at a niche segment, rather than mainstream users. However, the 4.8-inch Galaxy S III changed those perceptions to the some extent, although many Android users have been calling for a high-end Android device with a screen size between 4 and 4.3-inches.
While the Galaxy S 4 Mini will address the issue of display size to some extent with its rumored 4.3-inch display, it is expected to continue with a much less powerful dual-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz. It is thought to pack in an 8-megapixel rear shooter with a 2-megapixel front camera and support microSD cards up to 64GB. Like the larger Galaxy S 4, it will have a removable battery design, but retain the plastic body.
