Leaked 2013 roadmap shows tablet, possible phablet
The next twelve months will see Canadian smartphone manufacturer BlackBerry moving beyond its Z10 and Q10 models, releasing at least three new devices by Q2 2014. This according to a leak purporting to be a roadmap for the manufacturer's next year. Included in the roadmap are both a 10-inch tablet and a large-screened phablet model that could be the mysterious and as-yet-unannounced Aristo.
An image of the supposed roadmap leaked on Friday from the new Twitter account @BB10Leaks (via TechnoBuffalo). The image shows the already released BlackBerry Z10, the forthcoming, QWERTY-enabled Q10, and three more devices slated to be released by the second quarter of 2014.
The first of those is a 10-inch tablet, slated for release in the third or fourth quarter of this year. Toward the end of the year, the roadmap has BlackBerry releasing a phone with a much larger screen than that featured on the Z10. That phone could be the previously-leaked Aristo model, a higher-power handset meant to take on devices such as Samsung's Galaxy Note II and other large-screened Android devices.
The second quarter of 2014 will, according to the roadmap, see BlackBerry releasing a larger-screened, QWERTY-enabled model to complement the Q10.
The BlackBerry Z10 debuted to solid reviews but skepticism that that handset and the Q10 would be enough to dig BlackBerry out of the hole it is in. The device appears to have gone on to encouraging sales since its release, though it remains to be seen how it will do in the North American market.
